5,000 and Less |
Most residential generators have 20-amp outlets. If it has a
30-amp outlet too, get the 30-amp system so it can accommodate all of the
wattage. |
 |
5,000 - 7,500 |
Some generators have 3-prong outlets. If you don't need a 240
volt breaker, you can save by getting a 3-prong system. |
 |
5,000 - 7,500 |
If you need a 240 volt breaker, you'll need a 4-prong system. If
you're not sure, always go with the 4-prong system. |
 |
7,500 - 12,500 |
Most 50-amp systems feature twistlock plugs, but most larger
generators use straight-blade outlets. If your generator has a straight-blade
outlet, simply cut off the male twistlock plug and replace it with a
straight-blade plug. |
